Trip Description

Pictured Rocks is one of the crown jewels of Lake Superior paddling. The towering painted rock cliffs, the sandstone colored by the leaching of minerals, the enormous sea arches, the beautiful sandy beaches, the wild rivers and waterfalls that pour into Superior from the high cliffs, the gull rookeries and eagles all create a trip of awesome beauty and wonder. Paddle up close and marvel at the rugged shoreline and painted rock. Enjoy the serenity of camping in the quiet Boreal wilderness and at night, wonder at the starlit sky, and hopefully even some northern lights, while you listen to the waters lapping the shoreline.

Experience sea kayaking this majestic shoreline with Geneva Kayak over five days and four nights on the water. We’ll start our trip with a night in Munising, MI before heading out to launch for our journey in Pictures Rocks and Grand Island. Camping out of your kayak is one of the best ways to get the true Picture Rocks experience.

The Pictured RocksTour is rated a GKC Level 2+ trip, a beginner sea kayaking tour. On Level 2+ trips, participants should be comfortable with re-entry skills taught in our GKC Level 2 training. Participants DO NOT need to hold their L2 or 2 Star awards to participate, but would benefit from taking our BCU or ACA Level 2 TRAININGS before the trip and practicing the skills. Please call us for more information or with any questions. Our Expeditionary Paddling Trips are for the paddler seeking to develop his or her paddling skills and seamanship while journeying on the sea by kayak. These trips combine both inn accommodations and backcountry camping as we often paddle into remote areas.

Included in the price of the trip is lodging on the first night in Munising, kayaks, paddles, sprayskirts, safety kits, tents and outdoor cooking equipment. Sleeping bags and mattresses, personal clothing and paddling gear are not included. The trip is guided by Geneva Kayak's ACA and BCU certified instructors.
