Trip Description
Paddle the most scenic stretches around Door County this Memorial Day weekend! Sandy beaches, lighthouses soaring skyward, picturesque islands and beautiful sea cliffs make Door County an idyllic destination for beginner paddlers and more advanced paddlers alike. Weather permitting, possible day paddles include the sea caves of cave point in Whitefish Dunes State Park, the Strawberry Islands, Washington Island and la Porte des Morts and Newport Beach State Park.Camping accommodations will be provided at Peninsula State Park’s Tennison Bay campsite. After paddling, participants can enjoy walking the scenic shoreline of the state park as well as heading to numerous quaint Door County towns. During the trip, tents, cooking and eating gear are provided in the cost, as well as dinner the first evening and breakfasts and lunches cooked by your guides.
GKC Level 2 trip, suitable for beginner and advancing beginner paddlers. On Level 2 trips, participants should be comfortable with introductory skills and be ready for Level 2 training as outlined in our description of ACA L2 training or BCU 2 Star Training. Participants DO NOT need to hold their L2 or 2 Star awards to participate, but would benefit from taking our GKC Level 2 Training before the trip. Itinerary
(subject to change due to weather and nearshore conditions)Day 1
Arrive at Peninsula State Park and check at the Tennison Bay campsites, dinner and orientation. For participants who arrive by 3pm, we’ll take a day paddle along the shoreline of Tennison Bay.Dinner is Included
Day 2
Launch from Rowley’s Bay and paddle north along the shoreline of Newport Beach to the ferry terminal. This is a scenic stretch, with undeveloped and densely wooded shoreline, rocky outcroppings, beautiful beaches and small rocky islands.Breakfast and Lunch are included
Day 3
If conditions are calm, we’ll head to the north tip of the island and launch from the ferry terminal, paddling through Porte des Morts to Washington, Detriot and Pilot Islands. For a more protected paddle, we’ll enjoy the Strawberry Islands or Nicolet Bay and Eagle Harbor in Peninsula State Park.Breakfast and Lunch are included
Day 4
Cave Point in Whitefish Dunes State Park is a scenic paddle for our last day of kayaking. The sea caves at cave point one of Door County’s most scenic points of interest and our sea kayaks offer the best way to experience this part of the coast. The trip to the sea caves is a half-day paddle and participants will be able to depart at approximately 11am.Breakfast is Included
